SOME FACTS ABOUT THE LIBRARY
A Year in the Life of the Wellesley Free Library (Updated 8/30/2011)
There are over 17,929 Wellesley residents with Library cards. The Library is open 7 days a week. There are 235,453 books in the Library's collection; 14,757 DVDs and video cassettes, 18,545 compact discs and audio books, 3,640 ebooks and 2,400 downloadable audio books. The Library has subscriptions to 331 magazines and 31 databases.
- 470,382 people of all ages walked through the doors. Each had an individual reason for visiting the Library.
- 672,094 items were checked out;
- 96,094 items were renewed from home;
- 258,436 items were checked out using our self-check machine;
- Of the 672,094 items checked out, 454,088 are books, 133,769 are DVD or video, 74,637 are music CDs or audio books; 7,806 are magazines; 1,534 are downloadable audio books or eBooks, and 260 are miscellaneous materials;
- 64,680 questions were answered by the Reference Staff by phone, email and through the website;
- 503,503 visits were made to the Library's website www.wellesleyfreelibrary.org.
- 11,564 children attended 395 children's programs;
- 620 middle school students attended 37 programs;
- 5,952 people attended 407 general interest programs and computer classes;
- 156 volunteers donated 7,373 hours to shelve books, to keep the shelves in order and to do other important support activities.
- 66 full and part-time employees worked to serve you.

Through books, media, technology and innovative programs, the Wellesley Free Library provides free and convenient access to information within and beyond our walls.
