A Year in the Life of the Wellesley Free Library (Updated 7/30/2009)
There are over 18,568 Wellesley residents with Library cards. The Library is open 7 days a week. There are 269,071 videos, DVDs, audio books, music CDs and other materials in the Library's collection. The Library has subscriptions to 324 magazines and 22 databases.
- 461,778 people of all ages walk through the doors. Each has an individual reason for visiting the Library.
- 425,162 books, 72,708 music CDs, 137,411 videos and DVDs are checked out.
- 644,277 items are checked out of the Wellesley Free Library.
- 72,772 items are renewed from home.
- 34,170 items are checked out using our self-check machine.
- 30,215 questions are answered by the Reference Department by phone, email and through the website.
- 421,053 visits to the Library's website www.wellesleyfreelibrary.org.
- 10,682 children attend 239 children's programs.
- 6,282 people attend 286 general interest programs.
- 143 volunteers donate 6,433 hours to shelve books, to keep the shelves in order and to do other important support activities.
- 65 full and part-time employees work to serve you.
