A Year in the Life of the Wellesley Free Library (Updated 8/24/2010)
There are over 18,270 Wellesley residents with Library cards. The Library is open 7 days a week. There are 239,862 books in the Library's collection; 14,533 video cassettes and DVDs and 17,221 compact disc and audio books. The Library has subscriptions to 330 magazines and 22 databases.
- 462,468 people of all ages walk through the doors. Each has an individual reason for visiting the Library.
- 667,173 items are checked out of the Wellesley Free Library.
- Of the 667,173 check outs, 445,344 are books, 137,351 are video or DVD and 74,835 are music CD or audio books;
- 83,097 items are renewed from home (or remotely);
- 33,898 items are checked out using our self-check machine.
- 41,219questions are answered by the Reference Department by phone, email and through the website;
- 514,991 visits to the Library's website www.wellesleyfreelibrary.org.
- 10,940 children attend 257 children's programs;
- 6,282 people attend 283 general interest programs;
- 191 volunteers donate 7,959 hours to shelve books, to keep the shelves in order and to do other important support activities.
- 65 full and part-time employees work to serve you.

Through books, media, technology and innovative programs, the Wellesley Free Library provides free and convenient access to information within and beyond our walls.
