CUSTOMER SERVICE POLICY
The Wellesley Free Library strives to offer excellent library services to all. In addition to the quality of the facility and the collection, it is equally important to have a library staff that is trained to provide accurate, efficient and friendly service at all times. The customer service policy is the foundation for all staff interactions with the general public. All other library policies should be interpreted in light of the principles outlined below.
- Library Staff will treat every patron with equal respect and every request with importance.
- Patrons are to be treated politely, promptly, and with helpful attention.
- Whenever possible, judgment calls regarding standard library transactions should be made in the patron's favor. Staff is urged to be flexible in meeting the patron's needs. Staff decisions made in good faith pursuant to this policy will be supported.
- Skilled library staff will use their knowledge of library resources to fulfill requests in a timely manner or else present alternatives when requests cannot be met immediately.
- Staff members should be familiar with and be able to articulate library policies as well as explain the raionale behind them. Staff should always refer questions about policy to a supervisor when an explanation goes beyond their experience.
- Any situations or questions that staff is unable to handle should be referred to a supervisor.
