Kevin Alexander

Wellesley High School Author: Kevin Alexander (1999)

Kevin Alexander is a James Beard Award-winning journalist and recipient of the Society of Professional Journalist’s Mark of Excellence Award. He’s the co-author of Keith Corbin’s memoir California Soul (Random House, 2022), which was a Los Angeles Times bestseller, and the S.E. Boyd novel The Lemon (Viking, November 2022), which Lee Child called “laugh-out-loud sensational.”

His 2019 book Burn The Ice: The American Culinary Revolution and Its End (Penguin Press) caused a stir in the world of food. Kevin entered the culinary trenches of restaurants and revealed their complicated, even hilarious cultures. Wright Thompson claims that this book is “modern anthropology about the physical and spiritual implications of what and how we eat.”

The book was an Amazon Editors Pick, and deemed “sharply insightful” by The Times Literary Supplement.  A critics favorite, it deeply immerses the reader in the last decade of revolution and re-definition of the American culinary scene, and was honored as “Crucial reading for food lovers, social anthropologists, and cultural historians,  He writes with rare energy, telling a distinctly American story, at once timeless and cutting-edge, about unbridled creativity and ravenous ambition.” His work has appeared in Esquire, Elle, Men’s Journal, The New Republic, and the Boston Globe. He is a 2018 winner of the Association of Food Journalist Award.
