Oscar movies and their books

Many Oscar winning movies are based on critically acclaimed books with similar or unique titles.  Come in and browse our collection.

The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge by Michael Punke. The film is based on Punke’s 2002 book set in 1823 and based on the story of the real-life trapper and frontiersman Hugh Glass.

The Martian by Andy Weir. Weir’s 2011 SF acventure.

Carol by Patricia Highsmith. Highsmith is also the author of Strangers on the Train and The Talented Mr. Ripley. Carol, a tale of romantic obsession, is based on Highsmith’s own life and published in 1952 as The Price of Salt.

The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine by Michael Lewis. Lewis, also the author of The Blind Side and Moneyball, recounts the story of Wall Street players who foresaw the financial collapse of 2008.

Brooklyn by Colm Toibin is the story of a young Irish immigrant forging a life in 1950’s Brooklyn. Toibin also penned the critically accalimed Nora Webster and The Master in addition to several collections of short stories.

Trumbo by Bruce Cook. Cook’s 1977 biography of Dalton Trumbo, the Oscar-winning screenwriter who broke the Holywood blacklist, is the basis for the film.
