Take Your Best Swing!

July is National Golf Month and time to enjoy the popular American pastime! Gaining popularity in America via Great Britain in the late 1800s, golf reached its zenith in the U.S. in the Roaring Twenties, with over a thousand golf clubs existing in the country by the early 1930s. While the true origins of golf are still widely unknown, experts generally agree that an early form of golf originated in the Netherlands in the Middle Ages. The sport as we know it is considered to be a Scottish invention; in fact the very word “golf” can be traced back to the Scots language!1

Visit our book display on the second floor for a selection of books about golf history, famous golfers, how to improve your game, and even a few novels about the sport! Learn more about the history of the sport and how to beat your opponent on the green.
