Bob Arnot

Wellesley High School Writer: Bob Arnot

Bob Arnot M.D. was the first national medical television journalist, pioneering the field as Chief Medical correspondent (and later also foreign correspondent) for NBC and CBS Nightly News.  He was such a respected and well-known presence in the country from 1984-2004 that he was referred to as just “Dr. Bob.”

In addition to his full-time presence on the nightly national news for two decades, Dr. Bob became a leading voice in health awareness and preventative medicine, writing 14 books on health and nutrition, sports science, physical fitness, and breast cancer.  Some of his New York Times Bestselling titles include The Breast Cancer Prevention Diet, How to Prevent a Heart Attack, Turning Back the Clock, and Beating Wear and Tear.

Dr. Bob was also recognized for his work in humanitarian issues — not only covering major disasters ranging from the Rwandan Genocide to Gulf War I and II, but also being a founder (Lifeline Iraq) and board member of several humanitarian aid organizations (including Save the Children, and the UN High Commission for Refugees).

He has won an Emmy Award, the Overseas Press Club Award, the DuPont Award, and was named “Best Embedded Reporter” in the Iraq Campaign by Vanity Fair.  For his work as a war correspondent he was made an Honorary Blue Knight by the U.S. Marine Corps.
