Sean Carberry

 

Wellesley High School Writer: Sean Carberry (1987)

            Sean is NPR’s international correspondent based in Kabul, where he reports for all its programs, including Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Weekend Edition.  Previously, he had been NPR’s foreign producer and reporter, traveling and reporting from Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Kosovo, Russia, Sudan, Egypt, Colombia, and Afghanistan, and winning awards for his stories including one about the impact of electricity shortage on the economy in Afghanistan, and another following the experiences of Syrian refugees in Turkish camps.  He recently won the Gabriel Award Certificate of Merit for “The First Freedom,” and the Sigma Delta Chi Award for “The Arab World’s Demographic Dilemma.”  After receiving a BA from Lehigh and an MPA from Harvard’s Kennedy School, he started his career as political and field producer at WBUR-FM in Boston, and then was international senior producer at America Abroad Media.

            Sean has also been an assistant professor of music production at the Berklee College of Music, received a Gold Record as recording engineer for Susan Tedeschi’s Grammy-nominated album Just Won’t Burn, and engineered music for the TV series Sex in the City.
