Wakelin Room - James Wilson Rayen

The late Wellesley College Art Professor James Wilson Rayen painted for more than six decades.  His biography reads a bit like a 'who's who' of 20th century art history.  He studied at Phillips Academy in Andover and went on to earn his BFA and MFA at Yale.  He began as an abstract painter but later transitioned to landscapes.  Rayen found limitless variations in the River Charles and its marshes: time of day, change of seasons--it is never boring.  He described the challenge of making a painting as 'finding the balance between observation, memory and invention--each plays an essential role.'

Lobby - Building a New Library

June 1, 2013 is the tenth anniversary of the opening of the new Wellesley Free Library.  Photographs in the Lobby will highlight the construction of the building
