Descender: Tin Stars

The galaxy is attacked by massive, mysterious robots. Fear sweeps the nine planets and anti-robot fervor leads to the destruction of all robots. Any left lingering are hunted by mercenaries. Years later we meet one robot, a boy designed for human companionship, who wakes up innocent and ignorant of a devastated galaxy. Soon he is discovered by the scientist who created him, the father of robotics, along with some government agents looking to uncover the origins of the robots who attacked the nine planets. At first this piece of science fiction feels like a familiar story. As events unfold we are taken back and forth between present and past to find our world and characters are not what they seem.

Descender: Tin Stars is the first volume of an ongoing graphic novel series by Jeff Lemire. The magnificent watercolor illustrations by Dustin Nguyen add a haunting beauty to this story and its universe.
