“Jackie’s Room” Computer Training Room Policy

Introduction

The Wellesley Free Library strives to provide its patrons with current and comprehensive information resources in print and electronic media formats.  To aid in the understanding and use of electronic resources, databases, and devices, we are pleased to be able to provide training in Jackie Room, the computer training room made possible through the generosity of Alice Confortes, in memory of her daughter, Jackie Confortes Covo.  As per the terms of the gift, any use of the Jackie Room requires supervisory staff in attendance.

Purpose

The principal purpose of Jackie Room is to instruct patrons and staff on how to use the various digital information resources (e.g. databases) available through the WFL and the Internet, to provide training sessions on the latest media and devices available, and to provide general courses of interest to library patrons.  The room will also be used for open labs where people can meet with staff for assistance in using digital resources and technology.

Room Use

The Library offers the use of Jackie Room free to library organizations such as the Minuteman Library Network, the Metrowest Region, and Town departments.

Because its primary purpose is to serve as a training center for the Library’s patrons and staff, training sessions pertaining to patron and staff activities will always receive priority when schedules are established.

Patrons using Jackie Room are required to abide by rules established by the Board of Library Trustees as detailed in the Internet Access Policy and the Internet Safety Policy.

Notwithstanding the above, this policy may be subject to exception at the discretion of the Director and/or Board of Library Trustees.
